@cupellosoccercoaching Mid to Low Block by Jose Mourinho To set up a training session aimed at improving players' blocking skills, create four 6-yard-wide zones. Initially, have all players remain locked in their respective zones to demonstrate how players can block passing routes through strategic positioning without pressing. However, without a pressing player, this becomes more challenging. Next, introduce one player to press in the end zone, creating a 4v1 overload. This serves as a signal for the remaining players to move into positions to block any passes as the player gets pressed. The pressing player's movements and body language provide cues to their teammates about where the ball is likely to go and where they should block the passes. As the practice progresses, allow two players to press in the end zone and assign one player to block passes into the middle zone. @cupellosoccercoaching Creating a Robust Back 3 - by Thomas Tuchel 💪🏽 Use a back three in your matches like Bayern Munich's Thomas Tuchel. Split your players into two teams, one defensive team of three players with a goalkeeper and an attacking team of eight players, two of which play in the channels. Play begins with two attackers who run at the defenders and try to score a goal, using the wingers to their advantage. The defenders must press the pair and force them to make errors whilst also preventing balls out wide. If the ball does make it to a winger, the defenders must block crosses, but they are not allowed to enter the channels. After each run the next pair of attackers begin their run, giving little time for the defenders to reorganise, maximising pressure. Rotate the defenders after each pair of attackers has two runs. @cupellosoccercoaching Move to Create Overloads🚀⚽️ Teams are 6 attackers and 4 defenders split into two pitches with a 3v2 on each pitch. The pitches are separated by a 5 yard zone that the attackers must not cross but when the defenders see an opportunity on the opposite pitch they can cross to even up the teams. The coach starts the session with a pass to one of the attacking teams who must make three passes before either scoring or passing to their team mates on the other pitch, so defenders can read the situation and move accordingly. Vinícius Junior has become particularly influential when cutting in off the left to both create goalscoring opportunities and shoot at goal. To train to play like this create four gates on the wide areas of the pitch 10 yards from goal. Each gate should be 2 yards wide. Play 6v6 plus goalkeepers. Both teams have three players in the centre zone and two in each end zone. Play from the 3v3 in the centre – team in possession must pass to a player in the end zone through a gate or dribble through one of the gates into the end zone. The player who made the pass or dribbled now joins in the attack 3v2.
