Finish With Fast Feet

This is a drill where we try to combine technical features like the control, the pass, the ball driving or the shot with more physical features related to speed and agility.

Coaching Objectives

  • The drill should be done at a fast pace
  • Passes are key to performing at a high pace making it easier to control the ball – play too fast and control is lost but too slow is not what would happen in a game

  • Use both feet and control with the inside and outside of the feet when dribbling

Coaching Objectives

  • One of the keys to the drill is the technique used to control, pass and shoot
  • Players should think ahead to the next part, be that receiving, passing, movement or shooting.
  • Scan: Always look around and scan before receiving the ball to get used to doing this.
  • This is a great exercise to train with both feet.
  • Details for your coaching are important: Movement should be at game speed, body shape, controlling the ball with correct foot, Passes should be crisp and on the ground.

Coaching Objectives

  • Attackers should be creative in the final third using body feints to fool the defender – the attacker must decide pass or dribble.
  • When dribbling use the outside of the furthest foot to keep the ball from the defender.
  • When shooting check the goalkeeper's position to see where the space is.
  • In 1v1s the attacking player should get past the defender and cut in front to give a better shot at goal.
