This game is exactly what it says on the tin, small and simple, getting players stuck into a fun soccer match

Coaching Objectives

Players need to be aware of who is closest to the goal to become the keeper, but also look to find space.

Drill Setup

  • 20 Mins
  • 8 Players
  • 2 Goals
  • 4 Bibs
  • 30x20 y

What the Players Do

Set up by using an area 30x20 yards with a goal at each end. You need balls, bibs and cones.

Split your players in to two teams of 4.

Play is a simple 4v4, with whichever player is closest to the goal, at any time, becoming the keeper.

There are no offsides and if the ball goes out of play, then either the coach can introduce a new ball, players can roll the ball back in, players can take throw ins, or players can simply dribble the ball back into play.

Coaching Tips

Awareness

Players must be aware of who is closest to the goal to become the keeper.

Stamina

This game will be fast paced. With such few players, the game will be end-to-end, testing the stamina of players.

Modify the Session

You shouldn’t need to make it any easier or harder as the game is meant to be purely small and simple.
