Every player regardless of position needs to be effective in receiving the ball and being able to keep possession, this drill will develop players ability to receive under different pressures and find ways to play forward.
In this drill players will need to find ways to create space, take an effective first touch to keep possession and vary their pass to play forward.
Drill starts with 4v2 in each half with x2 target players on opposite sides of the area ready to receive.
Attackers look to keep possession against the 2 defenders looking for opportunities to transfer the ball through the other half and into target player. Ball restarts with original target player.
If defenders win the ball they play into target player who started the practice.
Allow players to rotate roles.
Try to see both targets when receiving the ball
Scanning: To check for space and teammates
Scan before receiving to recognise where you can take first touch
Recognise when players need to take no touch, two touch, small touch to secure and bigger touch out in front
Drive ball into teammates with a driven pass
Use inside, laces and a little bit of disguise on pass
Space – Change the size of the area
Task – Allow attacking players to dribble into other half to create more space to play into target
Equipment – Use target goals instead of target players
Players – Adjust the players in each zone
