As more teams play out from the back the team out of possession must decide whether to press high or low – here the opposition press high to try and win the ball back with the attacking team needing to break through the press to get into attack

Coaching Objectives

This is all about positional play with overloads against the high press to create space for one player who can move the ball up the pitch. Look for:

  • Good technique for passing with weight and accuracy
  • Build up play from the back with good passing
  • Movement to receive the ball in attack
  • Good technique to dribble and get away from the pressing players

In the attacking half look for:

  • Good passing and receiving
  • Creative combinations
  • Clever movement off the ball
  • Taking chances with shots on goal.

  • 5 blue 5 yellow Bibs
  • Half pitch y

What the Players Do

Set up using half a pitch coned off the width of the penalty area. Use four cones or mannequins in the central zone. Create two teams each one with three defenders and keeper in the defending zone…
