Attack From The Back In Waves

In this activity teams are building their attacks from the goalkeeper and breaking through or avoiding the high press. The goalkeeper plays as an extra player in the back line linking with centrebacks to play the ball forward.

Coaching Objectives

  • Adopt correct body shape to receive so they can play forwards
  • Pass to the back foot into feet with good pace on the ball so it is easily controlled and moved forwards
  • Good build up play out from the back including the goalkeeper
  • Starting positions for making it easier to get the ball forwards and get past the defending players are vital as are the relations of centrebacks to ball and opponent
  • Keep the ball away from the defending players
  • Decision making under pressure

  • 25 Mins
  • 10 Players
  • 1 main 2 target Goals
  • 3 black 4 yellow 2 red Bibs
  • Half pitch y

What the Players Do

Use half your normal pitch and the width of the penalty area. You need a goal and goalkeeper at one end and two target goals at the other end. Split your players into one team of attackers (black)…
